Origin of 10/10
The symbol 10/10 holds a deep meaning for the love and memory of my mother Maria Rodriguez, who on April 16, 1939, was born in the city of Cayey, Puerto Rico. She remained there until she migrated to the United States during the late 1950s. Throughout this book, I divulge stories of the good, the bad, and the beautiful. As you read, you will be drawn into moments of well-being, imagery of distressing incidents, and the silver lining of hope. All in many ways involving my mother. Yet, through all these stories, Mami persevered, reconnected her love for her children and grandchildren, and faith in God’s forgiving heart. After undergoing a Liver transplant, our family was blessed to have her with us on earth for an additional 18 years. On October 10, 2010, our loving mother was called home where she lives in eternal joy! I honor her life, her love and her continuous presence in our lives through this numerical symbol 10/10.
THE GOOD
Over a ten-year span, life in the Rodriguez home could be defined as a typical Latino household. Although life was seemingly normal with the occasional dysfunctional ambiance. These occasional moments of dysfunctional pause were far and between, we relished in laughter, we smiled, we rejoiced, but most importantly we loved; it truly was the good old days!
THE BAD
From the age of 10 till the age of 19, life in the Rodriguez's world went from dim to dimmer, dark, to darker! Our laughter ceased to exist, our smiles turned to frowns, rejoicing evolved to resentment, and love transformed to enmity. Dysfunctionalism was the prevailing plight that ruled our everyday life. Stories told till this day are ingrained in my memories, yet they serve as my silver lining of triumph over failure.
THE BEAUTIFUL
Finding your “why” is the most beautiful self-fulfilling revelation one can experience in life. Within these 3 innings, the silver lining of life’s storms begins to manifest itself and provides the navigation needed to go from dark to light, sadness to happiness, and resentment to affirmation that love and forgiveness ultimately prevail. I will share my idea of how we can be that spark of hope to all who cross our path and be that agent of change in “knowing” we belong!
